Our Feng Shui Pets page provides ways in which you can take care of your beloved pet or pets, in and around your home.
Feng Shui is about environments and people. Originally, our animal pets wouldn't have been considered when designing homes. Yet It's known that certain animals were being domesticated as far back 8,000 years ago. In the olden days they were mainly used for working purposes, and in some places, still are. Animals were regarded as property rather than "best friends." Today, they're almost family.
Yes, nowadays pets play an important role in our lives, so their presence has to be taken into account when applying Feng Shui Principles.
Whether we - or our pets- choose a sleeping place, it's possible to ensure that the colour and the pattern of their beds are in harmony with the Elemental Energy of that position. Should our cat, for example, choose to sleep somewhere other than its basket, then there may be some geopathic stress which she senses - or she may just enjoy snuggling up somewhere else!

Feng Shui Pets and Your Animals Health
Although we gain pleasure from our pets, and studies have shown that caressing and stroking animals can actually relieve our stress, we need be aware that pets can present risks to our health.
Also, it's not surprising to find that visitors to our homes, or wherever we keep our dogs or cats, are often not eager to return. The answer could be that a litter tray in full view of the kitchen, is a real turnoff - particularly if those visitors have come to our place to eat. Likewise, there is more than a little unhealthiness in keeping, say, caged white mice, in a child's play room, or worse - bedroom! Apart from the health risks, cages are generally not conducive to good Chi flow.
It is prudent also, to consider the well being of our pets. We should, as far as practicable, mirror their natural habitats and lifestyles. This will go a long way towards maintaining both their health and their happiness.
And just a humans enjoy better fitness with good food and exercise, so our pets will remain healthier if they given good conditions in which to live. Do not confine them in unpleasant, cramped spaces and expect them to thrive. And feed them a varied, tasty and healthy diet. You like good tucker and plenty of variety don't you? So do they!
The mental health of our animals is also important. Problems often occur when pets are locked in a house or apartment twenty-four hours a day.

Feng Shui Fish Health and Wealth
"Fish symbolize success and wealth in China, so an aquarium by the entrance or in your sitting room, is thought to encourage this. Eight Gold fish and one black one are believed to be an auspicious combination. Nine is obviously a fortuitous number".
In China, when fish die, it's not regarded as a sad occasion. The reason? It is thought that they are absorbing the bad luck of the family. So any dead fish is replaced immediately. In the West, where animal welfare issues are considered, unless our tank is large enough to provide a reasonable environment for our fish, a picture or image may be more acceptable.
An indoor water feature in the south-east corner will serve as well. Outdoor pools, provided they are large enough and well maintained, provide a more natural environment. When in a front garden, place them to the left of the front door, never to the right.
Feng Shui Animals and Symbology
Feng Shui pets and the use of animals as Luck Symbols is widespread in China. Their symbolism lies deep within that country's culture and does not necessarily translate into other cultures, which have their own symbols. Where a symbolic quality is desired, an ornament or picture will suffice to invoke favorable Chi Energy to an area.

One of my cats has developed an arthritic hip. His bed used to be on the counter top over the drier (in the laundry room), but I have moved it to the floor. This seems to have made him happier. Now I wonder if I should have changed the colour of his bedding?
The other cat abandoned his bed for a cardboard box that did contain books on National Trust Gardens. So now I have put the box next to his bed. I have not put any bedding in the box. Am I missing something?
